Chincol Zonotrichia capensis

Pequeño habitante de bosques abiertos, matorrales, plazas y jardines donde se alimenta de semillas e

insectos, alcanza 15 a 16 cm de longitud. 

Frecuentemente es parasitado por el mirlo que pone sus huevos en el nido del chincol, por lo no es raro verlo alimentando a un polluelo más grande que él.

La subespecie que se muestra habita desde Atacama hasta Aysén.

A small inhabitant of open forests, thickets, squares and gardens where it feeds on seeds and insects, it reaches 15 to 16 cm in length. 

It is often parasitized by the Shiny Cowbird that lays its eggs in the nest of chincol, so it is not rare to see him feeding a chick bigger than him. The subspecies is inhabited from Atacama to Aysén.

Desde Atacama Tierra del Fuego, siempre en terrenos abiertos donde escarba el suelo en busca de invertebrados, aunque es frecuente que se alimente también de sapos, renacuajos o lagartijas. Inconfundible por su forma y tamaño, alcanza 74 cm de longitud. Más bien escasa en la zona norte de su área de distribución, llega a ser abundante entre Temuco y Chiloé, donde frecuenta los potreros de pastoreo y los campos recién arados. Anida en árboles altos y en acantilados donde construye un nido tosco y voluminoso con palos secos y pastos.

From Atacama to Tierra del Fuego, always in open terrain where it sifts the soil in search of invertebrates, although it is frequent that it feeds also from toads, tadpoles or lizards. Unmistakable for its shape and size, it reaches 74 cm in length. Rather scarce in the area north of its range, it is abundant between Temuco and Chiloe, where it frequently visits the grazing pastures and fields newly plowed. It nests in tall trees and cliffs where it constructs a coarse and voluminous nest with dry sticks and blades of grass.
